The premise is that I was never a big fan of the Beach Boys . Indeed, to say, in my opinion put Pet Sounds also among the 20 best albums history is quite obscure.
But in recent days this band occurs in many plays. First album of the
Fleet Foxes, which in many (from Pitchfork down) believe the best of 2008, I think we can describe as a Pet Sounds made in the snow. It 'beautiful, and very much recommend it. And in my opinion, if not the best album of the year (and I do not think it is), is certainly among the top 5.
Then I heard the latest Brian Wilson disc ( That Lucky Old Sun ) and I must say that it is beautiful. Sure, the season plays out and the artwork looks like a box of vitamin C 70 .. However, I must say, incredible. Incredible melody, voice, vitality. And here I say: that the McCartney stuff of recent years if the dreams, a hard case. Stuff that would take a plane to California right away.
Finally, among the best things released at this year's edition is certainly the Pacific Ocean Blue Dennis Wilson of .
Dennis was the first Beach Boys to do a solo album (it was 1977). The band was the drummer, the womanizer, the rock star, and - especially noteworthy - the only one who was surfing. It was he, at the beginning, to inspire the imagination based on girls, surfing, waves, beaches and sun that the Beach Boys sang. If California has the world in the head, it just needs a man.
Pacific Ocean Blue is an album of incredible intensity . Musically the style is unique, the references to the original band but there are not dominant, so such as the west coast sound of the early '70s. Twelve songs of incredible emotion, a rare sincerity.
He feels the other side of California, the sound of someone who has lived all emotional, sun, sea, women, drugs, surfing, and then sits on the couch and staring into space.
